Udupi, May 31: A woman has filed a complaint in the women police station of the city of harassment by her husband to bring more dowry as well as physical torture.
Raksha Upadgyaya is the complainant. According to details, accused Govindraj, husband of complainant got married to her in 2021 at Saraswati Bhavan of Chitpadi. During the marriage, Rs three lac was given in dowry to Govindraj and 30 sovereign of gold. In addition, Raksha’s family bore all the expenses pertaining to the marriage.
The couple were living at Moodusagri in the house that belonged to accused Govindraj. After some time, accused demanded more dowry and gold. When Raksha did not oblige, she was physically tortured and abused with obscene words. In addition, he also threatened to kill her. Though Rs 1.90 lac was transferred to the bank account of the accused in phases, it is alleged that accused Govindraj continued to torture Raksha mentally and physically.
Police are investigating further.
