Former Gujarat Congress working president Hardik Patel to join BJP on June 2

Ahmedabad, May 31 (IANS): Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener and former Gujarat Congress working president Hardik Patel will join the BJP on Thursday.

Confirming the development, BJP spokesman Bharat Dangar said that Patel, along with his supporters, will join the saffron party in the presence of the party state president C.R.Patil and former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel at 12 p.m.

Shweta Brahmbhatt, who had contested Assembly elections from Maninagar constituency on Congress symbol, is also set to join the BJP the same day, party sources said.

Last month, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gujarat visit, she had a one-on-one with him.

Reacting to this development, PAAS leader Alpesh Kathiriya said: "I got to learn about it from the media. Hardik has not spoken to me regarding this. I wish him luck for the new journey, but the road ahead will be bumpy as he has to address pending issues of the community and ensure that cases against the Patidars are withdrawn and a family member of those who lost their lives during agitation get a government job."

Calling him an "opportunist", Sardar Patel Group leader Lalji Patel said that because of Hardik Patel, those leading the Patidar movement were targetted by the community members when he joined the Congress. Now that he is joining the BJP, the leaders will have to face more problems, he added.

Political analyst Hari Desai opined that it is going to be a tight rope walk for Hardik in BJP and doubted whether he will enjoy the same power and authority in BJP as it already has several stalwart Patidar leaders.

Another important factor which might not work in his favour is that the fact that the BJP has not invited him to join the party, it was his desire. This was apparent from party general secretary Pradipsinh Vaghela's recent statement: "Neither the party has approached Hardik Patel, nor has he contacted the leaders to join us."

I see lots of comments bashing Hardik and BJP for accepting him. Guys , Politics is ruthless game and BJP have mastered it to perfection. BJP and even Hardik knows that he as no immediate future in the party he is going to join. Hardik will have to hang on , god knows till when. This applies to others who have joined BJP from other parties, as well. The plan of BJP is to kill the 'future' of its opposition and here their job is done. With young leaders absent the Congress will have to depend on ageing Ramu Kaakas with whom public cannot relate nor understand . You can even guess what the elctoral results will be when a ageing uncle has to contest against a youngster.

This man is called the angry man of Gujrat without guts in his pants. What he promised to the Gujratis as a congressman, could not keep it even for 6 months. He will scrape through the BJP butter like a worm and then let us see what happens. He will be consigned to a corner, not patidars.

Cong will face many such exits as many of its workers to top leaders, associated with it only to enjoy the fruits of power. BJP has decimated congress using this key weakness. This breed of opportunistic guys, are find safe heaven with BJP on crime and corruption. Being with congress today, means asking for raids from ED,IT,CBI, NAC, NIA and face many cases.

Please dont blame the Gandhis. If you are running a private company, what would you do? You will only choose people who supports you and don't care for the public or masses. Congress is in the same boat and if you look from this angle, there is nothing wrong with the decision. I would rather preserve my seat in the company then have someone from outside seat at the table.

A honest analysis by a veteran journalist about his exit- he isn't the leader he was 5 years ago, his charisma is gone & he can't gain any voters for any party he joins at present. In Gujarat according to him though BJP is winning continuously the margin or vote share isn't unsurmountable if opposition leadership leads with real issues of present like high inflation, unemployment, rise in poverty & malnutrition in the very state PM has jumped from CM of a state to PM of a nation with Gujarat Model as an example which sounds hollow if compared to other states like Kerala.

What amazes me about these young congress politicians is that none of these fellows if they have any moral ethics. If you have listened to his previous speeches about BJP and its leaders, how can he go and join this party which he was attacking all this time? I hope the voters will reject him for what he is. Congress is on a self destruction mode as Sonia won't allow any of young leaders to advance because of her love for her children or any competition against them.
