Udupi, Jun 1: Though the government has taken over the management of Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital, from private players, the issues are not resolved yet.
Employees of the hospital staged a protest on Tuesday May 31 over non-payment of salaries for the past five months.
During the last Congress government regime, B R Shetty Ventures had built the hospital on a lease of 30 years on a land belonging to the health department. The hospital was taken over by the government after Shetty faced severe financial crisis.
In the midst of this development, salaries were not paid for the employees for three to four months. Protests were held three times and partial payment was released.
The state government is going to manage the hospital from June 1. However, four months’ salary of staff and employees is pending. As the government did not assure payment of pending salary and also no guarantee of keeping all the staff, the employees staged protest on May 31 in order to draw the attention of the state government.
