All women bicycle rally held in Mangaluru, Udupi's Malpe beach

Mangaluru/Udupi, June 3: As part of the world bicycle day, Mangaluru City Corporation observed the All Women Bicycle Rally on Friday, June 3.

The All-Women Bicycle Rally was flagged off by Deputy Mayor Sumangala Rao and Assistant Commissioner of Police (traffic) Geeta Kulkarni Bicycle Rally in the premises of Mangaluru City Corporation.

All Women Bicycle Rally was organized by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited.

 The Bicycle Rally started from the premises of MCC passed via Lalbagh, Ballalbagh, PVS, Navabharath Circle, PVS, Lalbagh, and Ladyhill, and culminated at Mangala Stadium.

Speaking on the occasion. Premananda Shetty said, "The United Nations General Assembly has declared June 3 as International World Bicycle Day. The use of bicycles conveys a positive message that it is a symbol of sustainable transport and which will have a positive impact on the environment and the climate. It will also help people to stay fit."

MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, MCC Commissioner Akshy Shridhar, corporater Sudhir Shetty Kannur, and others were present.

Bicycle Day celebrated at Malpe Beach

Meanwhile in Udupi, Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M initiated the bicycle day event to mark the celebratory event on the completion of 75 glorious years of India’s independence.

The DC led from the front in the bicycle ride, followed by other officials and dignitaries, who peddled a stretch of 13.5 km from the DC’s office in Udupi to Malpe Beach, a major tourist destination.

The World Bicycle Day event was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) to commemorate 75 years of Indian independence. The NYK along with the district administration, ZP and all the major cycling associations were the main organisers of the event.

Eight achievers were honoured for their outstanding contribution in the field of cycling. The proud achievers were Santhosh Kumar – owner, Deepak Cycle Works, John Robert D’Silva, owner, St. Anthony’s Cycle Works, Rajesh Nayak, Dr Tilak Chandra Pal, Dr Rajesh Bhaktha, De Gururaj Krishnamurthy and national level cyclist Srinifhi Urala. Iinternational level cyclists Ganesh Nayak and Harshendra were also honoured for their spectacular achievements.

Wilfred D’Souza, the district Youth Officer at NYK, welcomed the guests and participants. The DC, Kurma Rao M, delivered the presidential address. Ashish Reddy, IFS DFO also expressed his opinions and was delighted to be a part of the rally, which was a grand success. Dr Roshan Shetty compered the event and expressed his gratitude towards the end of the programme. The event witnessed about 175 riders from distant places.
