New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) On the eve of International Women's Day, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday called upon women to come forward and gain economic and social status through empowerment.
"Women should come forward and gain economic and social status through empowerment. Such empowered women could then create awareness and be role models to other women," Dikshit said, addressing a function here.
She said that it was time to acknowledge the work women do by quantifying the output in terms of monetary compensation.
"Such financial quantification would help in ascertaining the status of women in the society," she said.
Dikshit said most of the work done by women was unacknowledged because it was in the unorganised category.
Dikshit also said that a number of schemes have been launched by her government to empower women.
