40 dead in church attack in Nigeria

Lagos, Jun 9 (IANS): The number of people killed in an attack on a church in southwestern Nigeria has risen to 40, Ondo state governor Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu said.

The incident took place on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Sixty-one others wounded in the brutal attack are being treated in local hospitals, the Governor told the media in Owo, the town where the St. Francis Catholic Church is located, on Wednesday.

Akeredolu added that 26 have been discharged from hospitals after treatment.

"Those are the figures we have now," the Governor said, adding that a memorial park will be built to bury those died in the attack.

The state government also set up a bank account for donations to help the families of the victims and the survivors, he said.

On Monday, Akeredolu declared a seven-day mourning and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in all public buildings in honour of the victims.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the heinous killing of worshippers.

Whenever Muslims kill or terrorize other community, muslims never condemn or comment against them. But when other community do the same they play victim card and even they want laws of the land to act in their favor. Dont feel bad muslims brothern, most of the problems in this world because of your superiority behaviour

May the deceased souls RIP and give strength to he family and the Church to stay strong!! Verse from Holy Bible, John 16: "I (Jesus) have told you this so that you may not fall away. They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me. I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you." May Peace of Christ be on all for, the Lord is God.

Agree or not, as long as India is a Hindu majority country governed by Hindu majority, we Christians are safe. Genocide is not in Hindu DNA.

Atrocities on Christians is the highest in Nigeria... Ethnic cleansing theory is followed by boko haram... Compared to there we in India must feel proud for the relative safety common people enjoy... Kashmir is an exception but the extent is nowhere near to Nigeria...

Davis Pais Sir, it is impossible to eliminate a religion whose population is equal in a country for that matter Christian population is slightly more than Muslim population in that country. Terrorist will terrorize people, kill people and get killed it is their job.

I have not heard of any instances of christians bombing Muslim mosques so far in the modern era. If muslim mosques are bombed it is by one sect of Muslims i.e Sunnis bombing Shia, Ahmedia etc places of worship.
