Sullia: Apathy in Road Works – MP Reproaches Officials

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Mar 10: MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, visited the town on Wednesday March 9 to inspect the ongoing state highway development works in the town. Noticing the painstakingly slow progress of the road works, he severely reprimanded the officials concerned.

After finding that drainage works were conducted on the freshly laid loose earth without allowing the earth to become hard, he questioned the unscientific method and propriety of the work conducted. He also directed the officials to complete the work of building the drain in front of the local police station, which was abandoned by them midway. He drew their attention to the fact that the half-completed drains have become water collection ponds and mosquito-breeding centres.

Earlier in the day, he discussed the issues with the officials of Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd and Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board at the Travellers’ Bungalow here. The officials told him that the road works have suffered on account of the closure of stone crushing units and non-transfer of underground manhole. The MP promised them to arrange for crushed stones if they are in need for the same. He revealed that a sum of Rs 20 lac required for shifting the manhole has already been released by him from out of his local area development fund. He asked the officials to convene meetings at least once in two weeks to review progress of road works.

The officials and contractors promised the MP to complete all the works before April end. Taluk panchayat president, Muliya Keshava Bhat, town panahcyat president, Sumati Narayan, Karnataka Forest Development Corporation chairman, S N Manmatha, Venkat Dambekody and a number of other leaders accompanied the MP during his visit.
