Manipal, Jun 14: World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14 to spread awareness regarding the need for “safe blood and blood products for transfusion”. According to the World Health Organization, blood-related products are crucial for public health across the globe. This day also marks an opportunity to thank volunteers and blood donors for their contributions. For 2022, the slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. According to the WHO, the theme will put light on the roles that voluntary blood donation plays in saving lives every year across the globe.
On this occasion Blood Centre of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal had organised a felicitation program for voluntary blood donor motivators. Cdr (Dr) Anil Rana, director, Manipal Institute of Technology was the chief guest of the program and Dr Sharath K Rao, dean, KMC presided over the of the program. C G Muthana, COO, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent and Dr Shammy Shastry, professor and Kasturba Hospital, Blood centre were present in the program.
On this occasion, Cdr (Dr) Anil Rana congratulated the blood donors and motivators for their noble act and said, “What you people are doing is a great job. Please continue this. Through this, you can save many lives." In presidential address, Dr Sharath K Rao said, “There is no other alternative to blood. It cannot be produced artificially. He said the only alternative is donating blood. One person can save three lives through blood donation.”
Dr Shammy Shastry welcomed the gathering and gave an overview of the program. Dr Avinash Shetty proposed a vote of thanks. K Satish Shetty Charitable Trust sponsored Best staff award and prizes to winner of 3D Art Object Making Competition were distributed.
