Udupi, Mar 11: The District Congress Committee (DCC) staged a protest at the Service Bus Stand here on Thursday March 10, opposing the irregular electricity supply, stalling of old age pension, ‘Sandhya Suraksha’ health insurance scheme, widower’s monthly income, physically-disabled benefits, and irregularities related to distribution of ration cards.

The protesters alleged that although the state administration had assured uninterrupted power supply, the power cuts are affecting the students during their revision study for the final examinations.

They urged the state administration to resume accepting applications from senior citizens, the physically-disabled, and widowers for various state benefits that were stalled on the pretext of ineligibility.  Protestors said that the poor and middle-income groups are deprived of ration cards owing to the irregularities in issuing them.

DCC president Pramod Madwaraj, M A Gafoor, K K Saralaya, Keshav Kotian, Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor, Amith Shenoy, Sarala Kanchan, Jayashree Krishna Raj, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Rajesh Shetty, and hundreds of party activists were present on the occasion.
