Mangalore, Mar 11: Addressing the progress review meeting of the city corporation here on Thursday March 10, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC), Subodh Yadav, urged the implementing officials to distribute sites identified under Vajpayee housing scheme by identifying the poor beneficiaries under the scheme urgently. He stressed that the sites were identified by putting in lot of efforts within a short period, and that these efforts should not be allowed to go waste.
He advised the officials not to keep proposals pending once the survey and map are prepared, without finding reasons to postpone implementation. Sites under the scheme have been identified in Suratkal, Kujnatbail, and Padav.
The city corporation engineers said that out of 17 roads taken up for development, 13 have been completed. The DC noted that the district administration has been extending fullest cooperation for the people-friendly initiatives of the city corporation, and instructed the officials to ensure that the work at MG Road and PVS Junction is completed by March 15. He warned that this deadline will not be extended at any cost, and directed the concerned to continue the work even at night, if the time is not found to be enough. Discussions were also held about the Padil-Bajal Road and Pandeshwar level crossing road, apart from railway bridge.
Discussions also hovered around the multi-level car parking proposed to be built in Hampankatta, where about 1,000 parking slots would be allotted. Practicability of building a fly over at Hampankatta was also discussed. The DC instructed officials to write to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), impressing upon the need to build MRPL-Suratkal road, which is proposed to be built with assistance from MRPL, at the earliest. It was decided to convene a meeting of all officials concerned about the proposed bus stand at Pumpwell. The DC expressed unhappiness about the inertia of the officials towards sending a report sought from his office about the parking of gas tankers for several kilometres on MRPL-Suratkal road. He noted that the drivers and other staff of these tankers have been creating nuisance by transforming roads into their homes. Noting that parking of gas-filled vehicles for long can be dangerous, he asked the officials to send the report as above early, so that an order banning this parking can be issued as early as possible.
He warned the health inspectors and health assistants that they will be held responsible if pollution and filth are found in the city. He questioned the officials about the improper disposal of garbage in a scientific way.
City corporation commissioner, Dr K N Vijayaprakash, who was present at the meeting, provided necessary feedback.
