Davangere, June 16: Brushing aside the criticism and opposition from neighbouring Tamil Nadu government and its Chief Minister M K Stalin against the implementation of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday, June 16 expressed confidence on obtaining green signal for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the long awaited project for meeting the drinking water needs of Bengaluru city.
Speaking the media persons in Davangere during his visit, he said, “The Supreme Court has not issued any stay order against the project. The issue has already been referred to the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). So far, about 15 meetings have been held over the issue. The CWMA is likely to convene one more meeting next week. There is no legality or logic in Tamil Nadu's statement."
Bommai said the State Government was determined to implement the project.
Reservation for BCs
The process for backward class reservation to hold the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections is on. The Justice Bhaktavatsala Commission is engaged in the process to in the first phase for conducting the BBMP elections, Bommai said.
Action would be taken to hold the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat polls based on the report from the Commission, the Chief Minister said.
Govt open to suggestions on Text Book Revision
The State Government is open to any suggestions to correct the mistakes in revision of the textbooks, the Chief Minister said
He said corrections are already being made in consultation with the Education minister.
“We are open for suggestions. The details have been uploaded in the department website for the purpose. There were objections against previous textbooks too. The State government is open to correcting the mistakes,’’ he added.
