Justice Shinde sworn in as Rajasthan HC's new Chief Justice

Jaipur, Jun 21 (IANS): Justice Sambhaji Shiwaji Shinde was on Tuesday sworn-in as the 38th Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.

Governor Kalraj Mishra administered the oath of office to Justice Shinde at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan.

Since the retirement of Chief Justice Akil Qureshi, Justice M.M. Srivastava was acting Chief Justice. However, Chief Justice Shinde's tenure in Rajasthan will be short as he will retire on August 1.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Speaker Dr C.P. Joshi, family members of Justice Shinde and Raj Bhavan officers-staff members were present on the occasion.

Justice Shinde, who was a judge of the Bombay High Court, was among the five judges elevated as Chief Justices of various high courts by President Ram Nath Kovind.

An Additional Public Prosecutor in Maharashtra, he was appointed Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 17, 2008 and subsequently as Permanent Judge on March 13, 2010.
