Japan Quake: Toll Rises to Over 7,000


Tokyo, March 19 (IANS) The toll in the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan has left over 7,000 people dead, a police report said Saturday.

The National Police Agency said that by 9 a.m.(0000 GMT) Saturday, a total of 7,197 people were confirmed dead.

At least 10,905 people are still unaccounted for across the coastal regions of the country, Xinhua reported.

Japan Friday raised to level five the crisis at its Fukushima nuclear power plan.
