Maha Governor swears-in CM Eknath Shinde, Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Jun 30 (IANS): Capping off a series of startling political events of the past 10 days, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office to Eknath Sambhaji Shinde as the 20th Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Devendra Fadnavis as the Deputy CM, here on Thursday evening.

The oath-taking ceremony came a day after former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray resigned his post in the wake of a major rebellion in the Shiv Sena legislators that led to the collapse of the 31-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

After a string of fast-paced developments, the BJP decided to support a minority government headed by Shinde from outside.

Later, following directives of the party top brass like President J.P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Fadnavis - former two-time CM - finally agreed to join the new regime as the No 2 and Deputy CM.

The two-member cabinet will be expanded soon with more MLAs inducted as ministers from the Shinde group of Shiv Sena and the BJP, according to party sources.

As far as my knowledge I have heard a vice captain promoted to a possition of captain but never heard a captain demoted as a vice captain which we can see in the form of Fadnavis. This might have happened either asper the deal between two parties or might have hatched conspiracy against Shinde.

BJP rode on the back of Shiv Sena and grew it base. Uddhav realized that. He also realized that if he did not do anything then Shiv Sena would be finished by BJP. The defectors are uneducated louts. They don't realize what they are getting into.

When ideology is same, why there should be 2 party? I was puzzled why 2 Hindutva parties and same way why there are 3 dozen secular parties? With this move, BJP ensured all their allies don't follow dynastic politics
