Elderly couple found murdered in Kanpur

Kanpur, Jul 5 (IANS): An elderly couple was found murdered inside their house in Kanpur's Barra area on Tuesday.

The couple's throats had been slit with a sharp weapon.

The deceased have been identified as Munna Lal Uttam, 52, and his wife Rajdevi, 55. Munna Lal had retired from the post of Supervisor from a Field Gun Factory.

The couple's son Anoop Uttam and daughter Komal were in the house at the time of the incident.

Anoop has blamed his in-laws for the double murder.

He told the police that he was married to Sonika in 2017 but she returned to her house because the two did not get along.

Since then, his divorce case was going on in the court.

Anoop alleged that his elder brother-in-law Surendra and younger brother-in-law Mayank, used to threaten to kill him almost every day.

According to Anoop, the family went to sleep early on Monday night but in the wee hours of Tuesday, his sister Komal woke him up to say that their parents had been murdered.

He immediately informed the police that arrived on the scene along with forensic experts and initiated investigations.

The suspect was seen entering the house at 11.54. p.m. in the CCTV camera installed in the neighbourhood while he was seen leaving the house at around 2.15 a.m. with a white cloth tied over his mouth.

He left the house and went towards Sankat Mochan temple.

Kanpur police commissioner Vijay Singh Meena said that investigations were on and the culprits would be arrested soon.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
