Delhi drowning tragedy: Fourth body recovered


New Delhi, Jul 9 (IANS): The body of the fourth youth who drowned in Yamuna river while taking a bath on Thursday was recovered on Saturday, a Delhi Police official said.

The victim has been identified as Sameer (17), a resident of Loni, Ghaziabad. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sagar Singh Kalsi, said that the body has been sent for post-mortem.

The incident took place around noon on Thursday, when four persons -- Wasim (15), Kamal (17), Iliyas (20) and Sameer (17) -- who had come from Loni to take a bath in Yamuna at Thokar No. 7, Burari, accidentally drowned in the river.

Subsequently, around dawn on Friday, a search and rescue operation was launched which has now ended after the recovery of the fourth body.

The official said that statements of the family members and other witnesses were also recorded and no foul play was suspected in the incident.
