Bantwal, Jul 11: Hill has caved in at Tipu road, Goodinabali due to heavy rain lashing here since the last few days. People staying in the nearby houses are facing a huge risk. A small portion of the hill had caved in a year ago. There were more landslides on Sunday due to heavy rain that was pounding here for the last few days. Tipu road was completely damaged, hindering transport.
Mud in the portion of the hill which had caved in earlier had become soft and slipping little by little. There is a danger of a huge landslide here. Two houses below the part of the hill which had caved in are facing the risk.
Three workers had perished as a hill had caved in at Panjikallu here four days ago. People below the Goodinabali Tipu Road are facing a similar situation. The landslide has disconnected the road for more than 75 houses. Further landslides are feared to damage drinking water pipeline that supplies water to 27 wards in the municipal council limits and water supply to them will be disrupted.
The delegation of the member of municipal council has submitted a petition to the deputy commissioner and MLA Rajesh Naik requesting to construct a break wall. The MLA who responded well to the request has promised to release necessary funds.
Zeenath Fairoz, member of municipal council, has requested the district administration to take the initiative for the break wall.
