Udupi, Jul 13: Udupi District Sports Karate Association (UDSKA) in association with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) winners and participants of All India karate National Championship 2022 held at Shivachatrapati Sports complex, Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra from June 17-19 organized by Karate India Organization (KIO), Khelo India University games 2022 held at Bengaluru, South Zone Karate Championship held at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and All India Inter University Karate Championship held at Kurukshethra, Haryana.
Out of eight medals won by Karnataka team at All India karate National Championship held at Pune, Maharashtra, Udupi district players bagged five medals – 2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze. It is a major achievement by the Udupi district players. Bharath Babu Devadiga bagged gold medal (Below 84Kg under 21 category), Ajay A Devadiga bagged silver medal (Below 75kg under 21 category), Chethan Kumar – silver medal (Below 60 kg under 21 category), Pranusha M Poojary bagged gold medal (Below 47Kg cadet category), and Chaya S Poojary bagged bronze medal (Below 59Kg Junior category).
Pavan N Poojary participated in the Khelo India University Games under +84kg category.
Chief guest of the programme was Dr HS Ballal, pro chancellor of MAHE and chairman of MAHE sports council. Association honoured Dr HS Ballal as the honorary president of UDSKA. Other guests of honour were Dr Tom Devasia, professor, department of Cardiology and executive member of IASK-DO, Karnataka, Dr Vinod C Nayak, secretary sports council of MAHE, and Dr Shobha ME, join secretary sports council of MAHE. The programme was also attended by officials of UDSKA. Chairman Shihan Anand Devadiga, president Shihan Keerthi GK, secretary Kyoshi Ravikumar Udyavar, vice president Renshi Nishanth B Bhat, and join secretary Shihan Santhosh Suvarna Udyavar. Other senior karate masters Sensei Rajashekhar Suvarna, Sensei Umesh Karkera, Sensei Ramachandra, Sensei Krishna G Kotian, Sensei Somanath Suvarna and Sensei Vijaylakshmi were also present for the function.
