Mangaluru, Jul 14: The management and staff of St Aloysius College organised a condolence meeting in honour of Dr A Shridhar, former professor of Physics, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, who passed away on July 11. Lawrence Pinto, HOD of Physics department recalled his services as a great teacher to the students. Fr Praveen Martis SJ, principal of the college read the condolence message recalling his administrative support in various capacities in the college.
Dr A Shridhar joined St Aloysius College as a lecturer in the year 1978. He served as the dean of Physical Sciences and HOD of Department of Physics from 2005 till 2015. He was the resident of Pragathi Colony, Bejai, Mangaluru.
Dr Shridhar did his Master Degree at University of Mysuru and PhD from Mangalore University in the subject of Nuclear Physics under the guidance of Dr N Lingappa in the year 1986 onthe topic 'A Study of Volume Integrals of Imaginary Part of Optical Model Potentials for Composite Particles'.
He is an excellent teacher and author of text books. He is popular among the students for his calm and cool temperament.
He served as the coordinator of PG Physics from the year 2012 to 2015. His great planning in the design of laboratories of UG and PG Physics departments will be ever remembered by his colleagues.
After his superannuation, he continued to teach at the St Aloysius Pre University College for about 4 years hence completing 4 decades of College teaching. He served the Institution for 37 long years. He has left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of so many young and old students who were taught by him and interacted with him.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
