Bihar: Cop injured in encounter


Patna, Jul 14 (IANS): Two persons, including a police officer, sustained gunshot injuries during an encounter in Bihar's Khagaria district on Thursday.

The encounter took place at Satghatta village under Alauli police station on Thursday morning. The accused Sagun Yadav along with two of his aides were involved in a firing at Rampur Chowk in the morning.

"We learnt about three criminals who fired several rounds at Rampur Chowk and fled to Satghatta village. Accordingly, a team of Alauli police station reached Satghatta village. The accused, after seeing the police team, two of them fled from the village on a motorcycle while Shagun Yadav failed. When the police team asked for surrender, he opened fire on them," said Sumit Kumar, DSP of Khagaria (Sadar).

During the encounter, Shagun Yadav fired several rounds on the police team and one bullet hit on the thigh of SI Rajiv Kumar. In retaliation, the police team also fired at him. He also sustained a gunshot injury in leg," Kumar said.

"SI Rajiv Kumar and accused Shagun Yadav were admitted to the Sadar hospital and they are out of danger. Shagun Yadav is a notorious criminal of the region who was involved in attempt to murder, extortion and kidnapping. We are investigating the matter. Efforts are on to nab the other two accused," he said.
