Udupi: Thieves Decamp with Jewellery Worth Rs 1.5 Lac

Udupi, Mar 27: Thieves stole jewellery worth over Rs 1.5 lac from a house near Ambady in Kote village of Katpady here on Saturday March 26.

The theft occurred at the house of Sadanand Suvarna.

Suvarna's family had gone to view the Yakshagana play being staged in the neighbourhood and returned home at midnight on Saturday but forgot to lock the main door.

The thieves stole a diamond chain, three finger-rings, two bangles, and a pair of earrings which were kept in the steel cupboard and a mobile phone, besides cash amounting to Rs 700.

Sadanand Suvarna’s wife Meena had removed all the jewellery from the cupboard and hidden it under her pillow before going to the Yakshagana performance. She placed all the jewellery in the cupboard locker but did not lock it.

Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs have arrived at the spot.

SP Ravi Kumar, DySP Santhosh Kumar, Kaup circle inspector Cheluvaraj, and Kaup crime sub-inspector Girish Kumar visited the crime scene.

Kaup police registered a complaint in this regard and investigations are under way.
