Karwar: Three Die, 11 Injured, in Accident near Kumta

Karwar, Mar 28: Madhukesh Shetty (28) from Udupi Santekatte, who was driving a Tavera van, and two passengers, Annappa, a rickshaw driver from Udupi, and Yellappa, a masonry worker, died on the spot after a KSRTC bus going to Bellary from Bhatkal and the ill-fated Tavera, coming to Udupi from Dharwad, got involved in a head-on collision on national highway 17 at Kadekody village near Kumta on Sunday March 27.

Anup Shetty from Kodavoor Udupi, Mallikarjun and Prakash, masonry workers, who were travelling in Tavera also suffered serious injuries. All the injured are being treated in Manipal Hospital.

Madukesh Shetty, son of Gopal Shetty from Kodavoor near Malpe, was unmarried. He left his job in Baliga Hospital Udupi to start his own business recently. He had been to Dharwad along with four others in Tavera vehicle for some work. His father has expired, and his mother is alone at home.  Annappa, who was from Sirsi, had been running auto rickshaw in Udupi since the last 20 years.

The deceased Yellappa, and injured Mallikarjun and Prakash, masonry workers by profession, were to go to Mangalore, and had boarded the Tavera vehicle, as it was moving towards Udupi.
