Sullia, Jul 20: A gang here has brutally assaulted a man for a trivial reason.

Kasargod resident Masood (18) who had come to Abbu Mukthi, his grandfather’s house at Kalanja, Sullia a month ago had been working as a daily wage worker. He had come towards the town bus stand on July 19 when he saw a gathering of people when he met Abhilash, Sunil, Sudheer, Shiva, Ranjith, Sadashiva, Gym Ranjith and Bhasker, people known to him. However, there were arguments and fights between Masood and the gang near a shop.

Ibrahim Shanif (24), a resident of Peruvaje grama, Sullia has stated in his police complaint to Bellare police station that the gang went to the house of the grandmother of Masood at 11 pm that day and started beating Masood by hands all of a sudden. Ibrahim Shanif hugged Masood pleading with the gang not to beat him. In the melee, Ibrahim and Masood fell to the ground but the gang began kicking them. Abhilash among them picked an empty juice bottle lying nearby and hit it with force on the head of Masood. Ibrahim asked Masood to run from there. The gang began searching for him when he was found lying unconscious at 1.30 am on July 20 near a well belonging to Aboobacker. Ibrahim tended to him and escorted him to Sullia KVG hospital. The doctors there suggested shifting him to Mangaluru hospital for additional treatment. The doctors of a private hospital in Mangaluru where he was subsequently admitted are treating him in the ICU.
