K R Pete, Mandya, Jul 21: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who visited the Mandya district on Thursday, July 21, has promised to ensure that KR Pete would be developed as a model taluk in the State.

Several projects have been taken up for comprehensive development of KR Pete, he said after launching a slew of development works and distribution of benefits under various welfare schemes in the taluk

Two lift irrigation projects, works to fill 11 irrigation lakes and piped drinking water project under Jal Jeevan Mission at a cost of Rs 420 crore have been taken up in KR Pete.

Cauvery, the lifeline of Mandya and Hemavathi river basins would be further developed, he said promising to take up Hemavathi left bank canal works up and complete at the earliest.

Water would be taken till the tail-ends of Visvesvaraya canal including Maddur branch canal, Sahukar Chennaiah branch canal, My Sugar factory would be reopened in August and plans would be formulated for setting up a medical college in KR Pete under PPP model, Bommai said.

Financial assistance for 40,000 Stree Shakthi groups

The State Government is committed for comprehensive development of Mandya district, he said pointing out that Vidya Nidhi scholarship scheme has been launched for the benefit of school children from farmers' families.

About 40,000 Stree Shakthi Self Help Groups would be provided with financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh each, Bommai said.

Selfish politics in 2018-19

The Chief Minister used the occasion to lambast the previous regime and described it as the ‘’worst kind of selfish politics’’ in 2018-19 when alliances were formed with everyone, law and order was compromised to retain power.

That is the politics of attaining and retaining power, Bommai said, taking a dig at the previous JD(S)-Congress government.

A big question was raised in K R Pete as to why Narayana Gowda resigned as an MLA. The answer has been found, Bommai said explaining that he has walked the talk by bringing development works of Rs17000 crore to the constituency. He has delivered on what he had said when he resigned, Bommai said.

When senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa became the Chief Minister in the middle of 2019, he travelled and worked tirelessly to combat Covid pandemic.

“Yediyurappa along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi worked in tandem and successfully managed the pandemic. This is called people-centric politics. Even Narayana Gowda resigned to be part of the pro-people politics,’’ Bommai said.

The State Government is working under the guidance of Yediyurappa to serve the people. The welfare programmes launched by this government for dalits, weaker sections and women are proof of the commitment for public cause. Yediyurappa raised the incentive for dairy farmers, provided interest-free loans for farmers, free power up to 10 HP pump sets for farmers. It shows his special care for farmers, Bommai said.

Apart from Yediyurappa, ministers R Ashok, Govind Karjol, Narayana Gowda, K Gopalaiah and BJP State Vice President BY Vijayendra were present.

Earlier in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister met the Rambhapuri Math pontiff Sri Jagadguru Dr Veerasomeshwara Shivacharya and sought his blessings.
