Udupi, Jul 23: “The strength and unity of the Congress party needs to be displayed. Siddaramotsava is not the glorification of a person or a party. It will not be wrong to think here about upcoming state elections. Though Siddaramaiah does not have the desire to celebrate his birthday, the programme is being held on the decisions of his supporters and party,” said KPCC chief secretary Madhu Bangarappa.
He was speaking to the news reporters who had arrived for 75th birthday of Siddaramaiah and Congress meeting at Udupi district Congress office on Saturday.
“Siddaramaiah was the chief minister for five years and contributed to the growth of the Congress party. This programme is necessary so that the Congress party may come back to power. Important leaders will take part in it. I have come to say that party activists in the coastal region also can take part in it and prepare for upcoming elections,” he said.
“There is no confusion between D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah. There was cordial politics between Gundu Rao and Bangarappa also. The people of the state should present a birthday gift to Siddaramaiah,” he said.
“People are fed up with the BJP. It is enough if the people in the state present us the gift during elections,” he said.
Asked about the successor for Shikaripur constituency, he said that he has no objection if the capable indulge in politics. “I have come to politics in the name of my father. The purpose of coming to politics is left to those who join it. I wish Vijayendra all the best and he too was wishing me the same,” he said.
