CRPF trooper held for forcing woman passenger to sleep in same seat

Patna, Jul 24 (IANS): A CRPF personnel was arrested in Bihar's Buxar for occupying the seat of a woman passenger and allegedly forcing her to sleep on the same seat, an official said on Saturday.

The victim was travelling in the Guwahati-bound North East super fast train from Delhi's Anand Vihar railway station.

In a statement, the victim said when the train reached Prayagraj junction in the afternoon, the CRPF personnel named Niraj Kumar boarded the train in a drunken stage.

"He went to a seat reserved in the name of the victim. Initially, he sat on the seat and then forcibly tried to sleep on it. When the woman objected to his act and asked her to go somewhere else, he refused. The accused CRPF personnel was in uniform and claiming special privileges in the train," an official of Buxar GRP said.

Niraj Kumar asked the woman to sleep in half of the seat and he would also sleep in the remaining place. The woman objected to his outrageous actions and kept on requested him to go to another seat as she was not comfortable. When the train reached Deen Dayal Upadhyay railway station (Mughalsarai) at 6.45 p.m., the victim went to the toilet and called the police control room.

"The police control room immediately alerted the GRP of the next stoppage at Buxar railway station. When the train reached Buxar railway station at 7.51 p.m., the GRP team at the station nabbed him. During breathanalysis, he tested drunk," the officer said.

"We have booked the CRPF personnel outraging the modesty of a woman, illegally occupying the seat of a train under the railway act and for violating the liquor prohibition act and arrested him."

Niraj Kumar is a native of Baduhri village under Sonpur police station in Saran district.
