Udupi, July 25: “We will be holding a meeting tomorrow on the repair works of potholes on the national highway that passes through the district,” said deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M.
Speaking to news persons, he said that there were relentless rains in the district for the last 14 days causing problems on the national highways. “We had given clear instructions in this regard during the last meeting. We will review the action taken in this connection,” he said.
Speaking about the action taken against national highway authority officials who have been remaining absent for the meetings held by the district administration, he said that the matter has been brought to the notice of state chief secretary as per directions from the district in-charge minister.
“The recent rain havoc in the district has caused a loss of Rs 166 crore. The district administration has sufficient funds to carry out emergency relief works and the works are being conducted utilising them. The details of the loss due to heavy rain have been sent to the government,” he said.
“A total of 907.85 kilometres of road under the district panchayat raj engineering division has been damaged. A total of 1283 electric poles, 200 transformers and 35.90 kilometres of electric lines have got damaged and in all 1,132.98 kilometres of road has been damaged in the district. 41 houses are completely damaged and about 265 houses are partially damaged,” he said.
