Mangaluru, Jul 27: The National Disaster Management Authority in association with State Disaster Management Authority will conduct a mock drill on chemical disaster at MRPL on July 29, informed additional deputy commissioner Krishna Murthy.
Addressing media here on Wednesday July 27, Krishna Murthy said, “We have conducted a table top exercise meeting about an onsite and offsite mock drill on July 29. Dakshina Kannada district has been selected as a model district to conduct a mock drill as a model to other districts. There will be a full-fledged mock drill on chemical disaster. The deputy commissioner will be the chairperson who has already conducted a meeting and distributed duties and responsibilities to the concerned officials. MRPL has been selected as the location for the mock drill.
“We have identified three villages such as Baala, Kaluvara and Mangalpete to evacuate people during the chemical disaster mock drill. They will be shifted to a relief camp at Hosabettu and Kulai. We will close down the state highway for half an hour as the entire mock drill will be similar to real incidents. We have appointed five nodal officers and five observers. The same responsibility will be given to 15 concerned departments who can act during any chemical disaster. The main intention of the mock drill is to be alert when there is such chemical disaster. Awareness has been given to the locals about the
mock drill to avoid panic among the locals,” he said.
