Bhopal, Jul 27 (IANS): A property dealer has been booked for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 5.20 lakh on the pretext of providing him a low-cost home under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) in the capital city, police said on Wednesday.

The FIR in this regard was registered by one Hariprakash Gautam at Arera Hills police station, alleging that Vinay Patil (accused in FIR) had taken Rs 5.20 lakh from him in the name of a home.

The complaint alleged that he, along with his family, has been living in Bhopal in a rented accommodation for the last several years and works in a private firm in the city.

Gautam (complainant) said he met a property dealer Vinay Patil in 2015. During the meetings, Patil convinced him that he has good contacts in government offices and promised him a house.

Further, Patil demanded money from Gautam in the name of helping to provide benefit of the government-run scheme (PMAY). In his complaint, Gautam claimed that paid Rs 5.20 lakh in instalments.

"Victim claimed that accused (Vinay Patil) neither returned his money nor provided home. Subsequently, the victim approached the police and lodged an FIR against Patil on Tuesday," said police official.

Police said that the accused has been booked under section 420 and 406 of IPC and further investigation in the matter is underway.
