Mount Carmel Central School hosts AICS Interschool table tennis tournament 'Smash to Win 2022'

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangaluru hosted the AICS (Association of ICSE and CBSE Schools) Interschool table tennis tournament “Smash to Win 2022” for the AICS member schools of Dakshina Kannada on July 29, in the school auditorium.

In the midst of small and young sports stars, their mentors and invitees, the chief guest of the day Ashwin Kumar Padukone and other dignitaries marched into the venue escorted by the principal Sr Melissa. The inaugural ceremony commenced invoking the divine blessings by the school choir. The welcome dance by the students conveyed a feeling of oneness. Principal Sr Melissa accorded a loving welcome to the chief guest and all gathered.

The chief guest Ashwin Padukone, national level table tennis player declared the tournament “Smash to Win 2022” open by igniting sparkler candles fixed artistically on TT bats, thus igniting the spirit of sportsmanship in the players. In his message, he urged the players to have speed, sharpness, sincerity and silence of the mind when they smash.

He made a special mention that the game of TT enhances the intellect in a person and appreciated the initiative taken by the AICS in encouraging Table Tennis in their member schools. He congratulated the host school, Mount Carmel Central School on the successful hosting of this tournament.

Sr Meena delivered the note of gratitude and Shashikiran Kanchan, the chief referee meticulously briefed the players and the other referees with the rules of the game. Teacher Purnima compeered the programme.

After the formal inaugural, the chief guest Ashwin Padukone, joint secretary Sr Maria Anita, administrator Sr Carissima, PTA vice president Dr Preethi DSouza and chief referee Shashikiran Kanchan symbolically inaugurated the tournament by smashing the ball on the ping pong board.

The evening of July 29 had an aura of victory for the winners and hope for the participants in the school’s auditorium. The valedictory programme commenced with a prayer of thanksgiving to the almighty for the successful accomplishment of the event.

The vice principal Sr Lathika accorded a heartfelt welcome to the chief guest Fr Robert DSouza, the president of AICS and principal, Lourdes Central School , Mangaluru and to everyone in the audience. In his message, Fr Robert DSouza who had witnessed this unique and talented students from various schools taking part in the AICS “Smash to Win 2022”, urged the players to always aim high and never to lose hope. He very much appreciated the host school Mount Carmel Central School for meticulously planning the event and successfully ending the tournament. He wholeheartedly congratulated the players and all the more congratulated the winners.

The administrator Sr Carissima in her message shared her joy of witnessing the “WE” spirit in the players and blessed the small and young sports stars. The school PET, Melwyn delivered a touching note of gratitude, teacher Jacqueline compeered the programme.

“The winner takes it all”. There was a sensation of victory as the names of the winners were announced.

Winners : St. Theresa School, Bendore, Mangaluru

Runners up: Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangaluru
