Mangalore: Ladies Social Service League Celebrates Family Day

The city-based Ladies Social Service League celebrated their annual `Family Day' function at St Antony's Institution, Jeppu here recently.

The function began with Holy Mass, which was concelebrated by Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore.

After the Mass, the guests and the members of the league as well as a few inmates of the institution gathered at the hall.  The programme started with a prayer by the residents of the institution.   President, Noreen Pinto, welcomed the audience. The Bishop, vicar general, Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, Fr Naveen, and honorary chairperson of the league, Octavia Albuquerque, were at the dais.

Secretary, Lena Fernandes, read out the report of the work done during the year April 2010 to March 2011. 



Ex-president, Octavia Albuquerque, who served the league as president for 60 years, was honoured by the Bishop, by garlanding her and offering flowers, a basket of fruits, and a gift with a citation that was read out by Lily Pereira, president of Milagres unit.

Then the Bishop distributed raffle prizes held on February 24, 2011.
 
The Bishop, in his message, appreciated the work done by the members of the outfit, and encouraged them to continue to help the poor and the needy. 

Joint vice president, Lynette D'Souza, proposed vote of thanks.

A cultural programme comprising dance, songs and skit by the members of the league, was staged thereafter.

Benedicta D'Souza compered the programme.
