Mangaluru, Aug 3: Christian Life Community (CLC)- Youth Unit of Derebail Parish organized an interward skit competition 'Heroes of Faith' depicting the life of Saints on July 31 on the occasion of the feast of St Ignatius of Loyola.
The formal programme began at 2.30 pm at the venue of the Parish in Golden Jubilee Hall. Rovin D'souza, president of Youth CLC florally welcomed the dignitaries on the dais. Prayer was conducted by the members of Youth CLC, led by MCarol D'souza. The parish priest Fr Joseph Martis along with Socius priest Fr Gerald Pinto, Sheela D'souza, Gaulbert Pais, vice president and secretary of PPC respectively, Ullas D'costa and Gerald Concessao animators of Youth CLC accompanied by Rovin D'souza president and event coordinator Preethi Pais of Youth CLC, Fr Gratian Alwares and Vikas Pereira graced the occasion with their presence. Fr Joseph Martis addressed the gathering. The competition was symbolically inaugurated with the unveiling of portrait of St Ignatius of Loyola by the dignitaries of the day.
Immediately after the formal programme, the rules of the competition were read out. A total of 14 Wards of the parish participated in the competition with great spirit and enthusiasm. The competition was judged by Arun Raj Rodrigues; Valencia coordinator- 'Kalakul' Mand Sobhann, Jasmine Saritha Vas; Mogarnad- professor, Yenopoya University and Fr Ronald Serrao; rector- St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu. Sponsors were felicitated with roses by Fr Gratian Alvares. Carol D'souza compered the formal programme, Sony Pais valedictory, Vernon read the sponsors list, Gerald Concessao introduced the judges, and vote of thanks was delivered by Preethi Pais. The coordinators of the competition were Preethi Pais and Ronston who ensured the smooth flow of the competition. The winners were announced by Sharrel Veigas.
The result of the competition is as follows;
First place, Gollachil Ward with cash prize of Rs 5,000
Second place, Konchady 1 Ward with cash prize of Rs 4,000
Third place, Bejai Ward with cash prize of Rs 3,000.
Cash prizes of Rs 1,000 each were awarded to all the other Wards who participated in the competition. The members of Youth CLC humbly appreciate members of each ward for actively participating in the competition. The ward gurkars were thanked for their leadership and initiative role, leading to the grand success of the competition. This competition was indeed an opportunity to rejuvenate the unity and co-ordination among the ward members post pandemic and importantly imbibe the values of saints in our day-to-day life.
