Oppn uproar in RS continues, adjourned twice in pre-lunch session


New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): Amid intense protest from the Opposition over the misuse of investigating agencies, the Rajya Sabha held 'Question Hour' on Thursday, but was adjourned again till 2 p.m.

The House proceedings were adjourned twice in pre- lunch proceedings after the opposition members continued sloganeering in protests against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids and summons against the Opposition leaders.

After question hour V. Vijaysai Reddy, who was on chair, adjourned the House till 2 p.m. As loud sloganeering continued from the opposition benches, the chair allowed the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge to speak.

Kharge said that while the House was in session he had received a summons from the ED to appear before the investigative agency at 12.30 p.m.

"I respect the law and will appear before the law enforcement agency," Kharge said.

Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal said that law enforcing agencies are doing their work and the present government is not interfering in their functioning.

Opposition members trouped in the Well of the House and continued sloganeering.

Earlier, amid protest by the Opposition members, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon.
