Bengaluru: Rs 5,000 crore damage due to rain in state – Govt plans to approach centre for relief

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 9: It is estimated that around Rs 5,000 crore worth of crop, roads and bridges are destroyed because of incessant rains and flood in the state. The state government is making all preparations to approach centre for relief.

The estimation only based on the preliminary assessment. However, as the officials have not done proper survey of the destruction that occurred in June and July due to heavy rains, the government is still not able to submit proposal to centre for compensation.

The proposal for centre’s help can be sent if the destruction is more than Rs 1000 crore. Officials have been instructed to prepare loss report up to August 10.

Sources said that chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and revenue minister R Ashok will fly to Delhi next week once the crop loss survey report is ready.

It was estimated that crop over an area of 18,927 hectares is destroyed till the end of July. But actually, the loss was one lac hectare. Around 40,000 hectare of crop is lost due to the rain that lashed different parts of the state on the first week of August. If the survey is not exact, it will be difficult to submit report to centre for seeking relief.

The PWD is asked to prepare estimate to repair 12,000 km of road, 1,150 bridges and 5,000 school buildings which are damaged due to flood and rain.

It is said that a separate delegation of MPs and ministers of Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga will visit Delhi and crops like Coffee, Cardamom and red chilly are destroyed in huge quantities.

This is a very good chance before the elections to loot disaster relief money... Last time hopefuls are yet to receive a penny of relief in many places and we read them on newspapers... This time also money will disappear between cup and lip for them...
