Dubai, Apr 10: Eagle Shirva team won the Easter Cup 2011 by defeating Taccode Friends in the final match of the Tournament held at Safa Cricket Ground here on Friday April 8. 16 teams participated whole-heartedly in the tournament.
After the success of Easter Cup – 2010, the three young minds Rajesh Alvares, Paul D’Souza, and Wilson D'Mello organized the tournament Easter Cup – 2011 yet again along with the extended support from Taccode Friends and Little Flowers to bring the South Canara Konkani speaking youth together as well as to stage their talents and had a massive response from the cricket lovers all over UAE.
It was nice to see all South Canara Konkani youth present on a sunny weekend here in Dubai. Rajesh held the prayer and the tournament began at 7.30 am with the first match between Bajal Friends and MCBC (winners of Easter Cup – 2010).
The tournament was played on Nock-out basis and the best 4 teams from Group-A (Bellevision & Taccode) and Group-B (Royal Challengers & Eagle Shirva) entered the semi finals.
In the entire tournament beginning from league, quarter finals, and semi-finals and in the final matches the outstanding performance recognized and honored with man of the match awards, respectively.
The teams, Mangalore Lions, MCBC, Bellevision, Carara Friends, Arabian Friends, Taccode, Matchless, Spark, United Friends, Katapady Friends, Lakers – 11, Royal Challengers, Bantwal Tigers, Eagle Shirva, Omzoor Friends, Little Flowers participated in the league matches.
Vinay Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. At the concluding ceremony the trophies were distributed to the winning teams by Melwyn Cardoza of Al Shay restaurant.
