Giving Tendulkar Bharat Ratna Would Require Change of Rules

New Delhi, Apr 10 (PTI) The calls for bestowing Sachin Tendulkar with the 'Bharat Ratna' may have got louder after India's World Cup triumph but giving the country's highest civillian honour to the batting icon would require tweaking of the criteria that has been laid down for the coveted award.

The 'Bharat Ratna' was started in 1954 and has so far been given to 41 eminent personalities, none of whom are sports-persons, the reason being the criteria for the coveted honour.

Constitutional expert Subhash Kashyap says given the current rules "Tendulkar does not qualify for the honour and giving the award to him would require a change in the rules."

According to the criteria at present, the award is given for exceptional contribution in the fields of art, literature, science and social service. The criteria does not have any mention of sports.

Dear The Guru, Mangalore, we Christians are not troubling or terrorizing anybody in the nation whereas these communal minded bjp and its affiliated organizations are hating Christianity and Christians. The leaders of bjp are puppets of these organizations.

I quote your comment: What ur saying also happened to Hindus all over India after independence and still it is happening, so don't crib about it.. Unquote.

In your sayings if something has gone wrong to Hindus which means we are responsible/blamed and atrocities because we believe and follow in Jesus Christ?? Why the Guru? Why fundamentals hate Christians and Christianity??? Why do you hate us?? We love all Hindus including fundamentals. Why the fundaments hate Christians the Guru Why? Why? Why?

    Will you scrib/crib now???

For what he has to be given a highest honour, did he do anything good for the country or the people? He played for money which he is already been paid in every way.

Dear Mr. Shivanand Shetty, Mangalore/Bangalore/USA, Former show piece Prime Minister A. B. Vajayapayee has done nothing to India. Only he did was to put grass to the helter skelter moving flocks of NDA.

There were atrocities against Christians in Gujarat under Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Vajayapee visited and gave positive statement that the atrocities against Christians were committed. He came to Delhi succumbed to R.S.S. pressure and gave negative statement that there were no atrocities committed in Gujarat against Christians. He was a puppet of RSS and VHP.

First,it was British Prime Minister who wanted to honour Sachin Tendulkar with "SIR" award. But there was technical probelm .So Tendulkar missed SIR and now Tendulkar is going to miss Bharat Ratna unless RULERS change the RULE ! No problem even Mahatma Gandhi didn't get Bharat Ratna. But every second he is being remembered all over the world. If a player who has entertained every one for 20 long years doesn't get Bharat Ratna, then that is a big shame for Government .

I do oppose awarding Bhart Ratna to cricket player Mr. Sachin Tendulkar. May be some people can say he will reject such awards or he himself is a Bharat Ratna. Anybody can say that they themselves are Bharat Ratnas. Everybody in this country are Bharat Ratnas.

Sachin may be darling of the masses in a cricket crazy nation where other sports have taken backseat contributing dismal performance of the nation in prestigeous international sports events. In this regard the cry for awarding highest civilian award to sachin is immature and doesnot have merit.
