Media Release

Doha, Apr 11: True to its goal of serving the community and its motto 'YEYA EK KUTAMB BHANDIAM', Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar organizes talent competitions annually. These competitions are organized to promote and showcase the talents and creativity of our community in Doha both children and adults alike.  Over the years there has been tremendous success not only because of the participation of hundreds of children and adults, but also for the quality of the items that are presented and are being eagerly awaited for by the community. They get better and better with every passing year. The competitions kicked off on Thursday 7th April at the premises of Skills Development Centre in Qatar.

On Thursday, 7th April, little children in the category of up to 6 years had coloring contest. The children were delighted coloring the picture given to them.  This was followed by a Quiz on Mangalore for the teenagers in the age group of 12 to 18 years.  The quiz made the teenagers to put on their thinking hats and think about their trips to Mangalore and mark the right answers.  Quiz was followed by a Best of Waste competition again to the same group.  Participants grouped in pairs and got busy preparing the requested items from the materials given to them.  The items prepared were very much reflecting the creative thinking of the teenagers. William Lobo and Julie Lobo the creative artistic thinkers had a tough time judging the coloring and the Best of Waste Competition.  The quiz focusing on all areas of Mangalore with great importance to the basic facts that every Mangalorean should know was well prepared by Kiran Vas.

On Friday the 8th April for the first time in the history of MCC a cookery contest was kicked off to excitement of the participants.  The participants had to present one home made Mangalorean Sweet dish.  It was a great feast to the eyes and stomachs of all gathered to enjoy and savour the great dishes.  Beautiful presentations of their dishes on the tables was really eye catching.  Mugadaliche vorn, Chanyadaliche vorn, Sagu vorn, Patholiyo,  Manni, Boblaychi Kheer, Guliyanchi Kheer, Porthapole, Shevio ani roce,  Malpuri, etc., were all there prepared by both men and women.    Norbert Corda, Ivy Rosario and Denzil Britto were the judges for the cookery contest.  They indeed had a tough time judging the presented dishes.

All those who were present had an unique chance of tasting variety of sweet dishes and to have their taste buds relish with sweetness.

Dear Mr.Anil, Since we do not know each other and in case you are a new comer to Doha, just for your kind information, since 25 years of my being here in Qatar, I have never been a judge for any of the events organized by the Mangalore Cricket Club right from its inception. So much so if you in particular or any of your relations or loved ones have been aggrieved as a participant in any event by any one impersonating my name as a judge, then I do agree you have a reason to make such a statement, if not I do hope you will have the grace to withdraw your wrong statement.

“TRULY…..ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS” -

The cheerful smiles of so many little and bigger children and adults, taking part in the various group events like coloring the picture, Quiz, Best of Waste Competition, and not to forget the Cookery competition…….truly reflects the enormous success of the events organized by the Mangalore Cricket Club.

Its was nice to see no politics, no speeches nor any individuals claiming sole credit for organizing such a grand chain of events, but however due credit has to be given to the President and the two special ladies (Raina Pinto and Reena Castellino ex-Professor of St.Agnes) who have silently worked behind the scenes to make the events such a grand and huge success…. Congratulations to you Ladies and Mr.President.

A word of ‘sympathy’ to those with the dreaded red files……I mean the honourable judges, Norbert Corda, Denzil Britto and Ivy Saldanha, they must have gone through harrowing ‘mouth watering” experience in deciding which dish is better than the other especially glancing at the vast lay out of aromatic sweet dishes.

Only thing is looking at the photographs of the various traditional sweet dishes my mouth started watering so much that I could not resist emptying all the Kinder chocolates stored in my fridge in minutes!!!
