Kuala Lumpur, April 11 (IANS) Entertainers from India, including music director Vijay Anthony, singers Neha Bhasin and Naresh Iyer and dancers Ragasia and Meghna Naidu, are all set to enthral Malaysia's 2.1 million ethnic Indian community during the upcoming New Year celebrations.
A multi-cultural show is being organised Friday that will be attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, The Star reported.
On the occasion, the Astro TV channel will launch its special Community News Bulletin for Indians to be broadcast every Saturday and Sunday.
"The new Community News Bulletin on Astro Vaanavil will help to articulate plans and visions and how the community can be re-energised, revitalised, empowered and enriched," Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president G. Palanivel told Malaysian news agency Bernama.
The event would be telecast live on Astro Vaanavil Channel 201 and High Definition Channel 222.
The Tamil community will celebrate the New Year as "Varusha Pirappu", while the Malayalees will observe it as "Vishu".
The Telugus and the Sikhs, who also form a major part of the Indian community, will also celebrate their New Year.
Most of the people of Indian origin came to Malaysia during the British era. Malaysia also has a small number of people from Gujarat and parts of northern India.
