Mangaluru: MLA U T Khader hoists national flag atop 110-foot pole

Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 75th Independence Day was celebrated in Ullal by hoisting the national flag atop a pole of 110 foot. MLA U T Khader who hoisted the flag near Thokkottu over bridge said the flag is a symbol of confidence, love, faith, brotherhood and unity.

"May the flag remain permanently at Thokkottu and provide a noble message to the next generation. The current leaders cannot live for the independence day of 100 years. I am confident that the current children will celebrate that day in more gaiety and unity here at the same spot. All the governments have provided cooperation in the projects of providing permanent drinking water facilities, progress in the educational sector and good roads. All should throw away the word of hatred from their hearts. Doing work and speech conducive to society is true patriotism. I thank people belonging to all the religions, religious leaders and political leaders who participated in today’s programme," he said.

Various school students in Ullal taluk limits held a march past from Ullal Rani Abbakka circle to the spot where the flag hoisting was held.

MLC B M Farooq, Ullal municipal council president Chitra Chandrakanth, Vice president Ayub Manchila, Santhosh Rai Boliar, former president of the Mysore Electricals Industries Private Limited, former vice president of Zilla panchayat Sathish Kumpala, Congress block president Sadashiva Ullal, BJP block president Chandrahas Pandith House, Ullal taluk tahsildar Gruprasad, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Nagaraj, block education officer Ishwar, Infant development department officer Shaila G, Ullal municipal council chief officer Vidya Kale, Someshwar municipal council mayor Matadi, former taluk panchayat president Mohammed Sonu Malar and others were present.

In the march past, Ullal’s Hazrat Sayyed Madani high school bagged first prize, Government high school Babbukatte won second prize and third prize was handed over to Sayyed Madani school, Halekote, Ullal. In the college division, Madani PU college, Bharath P U College and Kotepura Tipu Sultan college were handed first, second and third prizes. Nithyadar English medium school received a rolling shield for all round performance. Eleven high schools and six colleges took part in the march past.
