Mumbai, Apr 12: The trial in the 11/7 serial train blasts case continued in the special MCOCA court on Monday with a deposition by a doctor from KEM Hospital.
The doctor had conducted post-mortem on five of the victims and recovered splinters from their bodies. These splinters were sent for forensic analysis and traces of nitrate were said to have been found in them.
The defence argued that although the doctor had dispatched the splinters on July 12, 2006, for analysis, they were acsent by the police 12 days later. The doctor stated that the forensic lab was only at a distance of 8-10 kms from the hospital. Inspite of that the material was only sent on July 24 for analysis.
"When questioned about the delay, the doctor said he didn't know the reason for itWe are trying to question why there was a delay and who was handling the material during this time," defence lawyer Wahab Khan said.
