Udupi: Milagres College Kallianpur celebrates annual day

Udupi, Aug 19: Milagres College, Kallianpur celebrated College Day on August 18 with all dignity, discipline and participation by the entire students’ fraternity, involving actively in the every single activity attached to it for the whole day. At 9.30, am sharp the spacious Milagres Tri-Centenary Auditorium was full to its capacity with the additional presence of its year degree students enrolled for all streams.

Fr Valerian Mendonca, the correspondent of Milagrean Educational Institutions and the rector of the Cathedral, The chief guest Fr Alwyn Serrao, principal, St Anthony’s College, in Naravi near Beltangadi, guests of honour Sudeep V Shetty, Anil, Rakesh of Comedy Khiladi fame- all the three proud alumnae of Milagres College, Jeofrey Dias, vice president of Parish Pastoral Council and Member of the College Mgmt Committee, Shekhar Gujjarbettu, president of MCK Alumnae Association were escorted to the well decorated stage by the principal Dr Vincent Alva, president of Students Welfare Council Jimson DCunha and others.

College Choir group gave the prayerful start by invoking Almighty Lord’s blessings. IQAC coordinator and staff secretary Dr Jayaram Shettigar extended a warm & cordial welcome on behalf of the College to all the guests and invitees.

Principal Dr Vincent Alva presented the informative and colourful Annual Report of the College events during the academic year.

The students who brought fame and name by securing second and third ranks in MCom viz Renita and Swathi Poojary, the recipient of Gold Medal Anusha, at University level were introduced by Dr Ganesh Bhat, professor Ganesh Nayak and professor Clara Menezes respectively. It was a thrilling moment to watch all the three special achievers were honoured with draping of traditional shawl, garlands, fruits and memento by the guests on the dais.

Vice principal professor Sophia Dais briefly introduced the chief guest Fr Always Serrao – a man of letters, a writer, translator, and a director of modern plays both in English and other languages, over and above a teacher and a trainer to the youth. In his address appreciated the all different and spectacular activities conducted by the College and specially made a note of Nayak a day exclusively managed by the students shouldering the responsibilities as principal, teaching and non teaching staff and so on. He also gave a call to students to reinvent themselves as each and everyone blessed with something unique….

The long list of endowment prizes was presented by professor Shylet Mathias, HOD department of Commerce, were honoured with certificates and cash prizes.

The guest of honour Sudeep V Shetty was introduced to the audience by the Convenor of SWC professor Chandrika, department of English. A proud alumna of the Milagres was specially honoured on this occasion and while accepting the felicitations, Shetty recalled his memories in this campus which had a great role of making him what he is today.

Dr Ampar Nithyananda Shetty, department of Kannada who was awarded PhD by Mangalore University for his research work was introduced by professor Harinakshi, HOD department of Kannada and recognised for his unique achievement and contribution to the literary world.

Physical Education director Nikhil Rahul DSouza, Jyothi, department of BCA studies, professor Melson DSouza, NSS programme officer too were appreciated and presented with bouquet for their special achievements, promotion in their respective fields.

SWC Convenor professor Karthik Nayak read out the names of achievers in Sports and games were presented with certificates and prizes. Professor Reshma department of History, narrated the special achievements of Rovers and Rangers in Rahul and Anirudh too were recognised on this occasion with prizes and certificates.

Then it was the turn to listen to the presidential address by Fr Valerian Mendonca. While congratulating Two rank holders in Renita and Swathi and Gold Medalist Anusha in academic fields, and all the achievers in extra and co-curricular, sports and games, who not only brought name for themselves and family but also fame for this Milagres College… while referring the chief guests speech and endorsed that knowledge with life skills are the need of the day.

Professor Harinakshi HOD department of Kannada read out the names of proficiency prizes, whereas the names of the winners of various academic competitions presented by professor Anupama Jogi, department of Hindi while Librarian Rekha U announced the names of best library user’s award for students and teachers.

Principal Dr Vincent Alva expressed thanks and presented memento’s to guests for gracing this College Day function. In his concluding remarks had special praises for final year students who were in charge of various arrangements, discipline and coordination.

To conclude the one of the best organised programme of the year which lasted for almost three hours, Jimson DCunha the president of Students Welfare Council, proposed vote of thanks to one and all.

It was Anouska III BA and Noel III BCA who anchored the event as emcees’ were rightly at their best to keep the flow intact and spectators engaged throughout the proceedings.
