Udupi, Aug 20: The two-day celebrations of Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Vittalpindi festivities concluded here on Saturday August 20 at the Sri Krishna Math.

Thousands of devotees who were gathered from various parts of the country including Udupi witnessed the Sri Krishna Leelotsava. A beautiful clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was taken in a golden chariot after performing the pooja to the idol.

The procession began in the afternoon at 3.15 pm, in front of temple and was accompanied by Chande, singing of bhajans, huli vesha performance and participation of tableaux.

The highlight of the event was Mosaru Kudike – breaking of the pot filled with curds, milk and colours. Traditionally, a troupe dressed like Gollas broke the earthen pots tied to a pole which were installed around the car street.

Sri Vidyasagara Theertha of Paryaya Sri Krishnapura Math led the procession and was accompanied by Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Sri Kaniyur Math.

A mid-day meal was served at the Bhojana shala from 10 am till 3 pm. Thousands of devotees participated in the Anna prasadam.

Vittalpindi’ is a celebration of the fun and frolic that recalls Sri Krishna’s childhood days. People enjoyed the event as festivities returned after a two-year gap necessitated by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.

A clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was taken on a golden chariot in a procession around the Car Street after which the idol was immersed in the Madhwa Sarovara, thus signifying the end of the two-day Sri Krishna Janmashtami festivities.

Following the procession, a cultural competition was held between various cultural teams. Hulivesha was performed at Rajangana, near the math with mostly kids taking part in it.

Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji graced the stage programme and distributed Sri Krishna prasadam to the contestants.

Artistes were seen dressed in fancy clothes thereby attracting the devotees.
