Mangaluru, Aug 21: The Social Welfare department is aiming at giving suitable training to youths, who want to serve in the Indian army under the Agnipath scheme of the central government. More than 754 youths have registered their names in Karnataka for the same.

Siddalingesh Bevinamatti, social welfare officer of Dakshina Kannada said, “Social welfare department has decided to begin the pre-army recruitment training schools at Veerarani Abbakka pre-army selection training school in Dakshina Kannada district, Koti Channaiah pre-army recruitment training school at Udupi and Veerabahaddur Henja pre-army recruitment training school at Karwar. Facility for the same is identified at Karnataka Polytechnic in Mangaluru, Koteshwara ITI college of Udupi and Karwar Engineering college.”

Youths between the age group of 17 to 22 years, who desire to join the Indian army can apply for the training. August 16 was the last date for submitting the applications. A committee under the leadership of the executive officer of zilla panchayat has been formed already for final selection of candidates for training.

In the three training schools total 375 (125 each) seats are reserved (OBC-100, SC/ST-25). Around 754 applications were received for the same from throughout the state. From Dakshina Kannada district 66 youths, from Udupi 108 and from Uttara Kannada district 580 youths have submitted applications. During the training period, food and accommodation will be completely free. After the completion of training, a certificate will be given. This will be helpful in Agnipath army recruitment according to the details provided by Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister for social welfare department.

For army recruitment selection will be based on both physical fitness and general knowledge. During the four months training, Physical fitness will be taught by retired soldiers while expert college teachers will take theory classes to face competitive examination.
