Kundapur, Aug 22: In an incident that occurred on late night of Sunday, August 21 near Devalmunda school of Katbelthur village under rural police station limits, a man, killed his wife in drunken stupor and later ended his own life by consuming poison.
Poornima Acharya (38), resident of Soraba, is the woman who was killed by her husband Ravi Acharya (42) of Kogar origin, who consumed poison and killed himself.
The incident took place on the night of Sunday. However, it came to light only on Monday morning as only the deceased couple were living in the house.
Ravi was a tipper driver and had married Poornima 16 years ago. Ravi was working in Bagdadi and lived with his wife and two children in a rented house there itself. Ravi is an alcoholic and used to fight with his wife every day. Hene, Poornima had left the house and was living with her two children at Soraba.
On August 21, Poornima had come to Maravanthe for a baby shower programme of a relative. Ravi called her over the phone and asked her to come home. Accordingly Poornima told her mother that she is going to Ravi’s house after completion of the baby shower programme. Locals say that late night fight must have ensued between the couple.
Poornima was not receiving calls from her children, who are living in Soraba, from Sunday night. Poornima’s mother, who got suspicious, asked her relatives in Hemmady to go to Ravi’s house to know Poornima’s whereabouts. Though the relatives went late in the night, they returned as the lights were off, thinking that the couple must be sleeping.
When Poornima’s children tried calling her on Monday morning, she did not receive the calls. Then the Hemmady relatives went again and saw that the door is locked. When they peeped from the window they saw Poornima lying in a pool of blood.
DySP Srikanth K, CPI Gopikrishna, station officer Pavan Naik and personnel visited the spot and conducted inspection.
