Bengaluru, Aug 22: The late hospitalization of people infected with Covid and the weakening of effects of second dose vaccination are the causes for increase in Covid deaths in the state. This information was given by the state health department.

Health Commissioner Randeep opined that people are not getting tested even if they have symptoms of Covid and they take normal treatement and go to hospitals when the situation is critical. Similarly, vaccination effect is reducing in those who have not taken booster dose and it is also a contributing factor for increase in Covid deaths.

Randeep further said, “So far only 8.34% people between the age of 18 and 59 have taken the booster dose. Those who are above 60 years of age only 44.79% have taken the booster dose. In April, five Covid deaths were reported, the numbers for June, July and August are 10, 29 and 58 respectively. Among these 19 are girls and a nine-month-old baby is also included. In August itself, 10 people who did not have any other comorbidities have died. In all, 14 people who are less than 60 years have died of Covid in August. Those who are 60 years and above and have comorbidities should get treated in hospitals.”

Dr Tilokachandra, BBMP special health commissioner said, “Among those who died, Covid was diagnosed when they came to the hospital for some other treatment. Because before admitting to ICU it is mandatory to check for Covid. Though many cases were reported in Bengaluru, most deaths occurred in Dharwad this month. While Dharwad reported nine deaths, Bengaluru city reported six, Ballary five and four each in Koppal and Dakshina Kannada.

In Bengaluru, 935 cases were reported during the end of last week and the total number of active cases of Covid positive are 1573.
