Udupi: Hindu Mahasabha, Bajrang Dal demand Savarkar idol at Brahmagiri circle

Udupi, Aug 22: Members of the Hindu Mahasabha and Bajrang Dal have called for the installation of a statue of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar at Brahmagiri circle, Ajjarkad limits in the city.

A request for permission to erect the statue was submitted on behalf of patriotic people by the two organisations to the president of Udupi Municipal Council to inform the public about the importance of Savarkar in the freedom struggle.

"Savarkar had fought against the British as a revolutionary campaigner,” they said.

Pramod Uchil, district president, Hindu Mahasabha Dakshina Kannada district, Udaya Poojary, president, Bajrang Dal, Ramakrishna Shetty, Yogish Kutpady, Shailesh Devadiga and others were present.

    All so far our Brahmagiri circle was and is peaceful... People around there do not want continuous tensions... As the place is not protected 24 X 7 there can be vandalizing of the statue for sure... This will be a sure shot headache for the administration... If Sumitra has a little brain working she will not heed to such frivolous and arbitrary demand...

    For 70 years these jobless guys were fast asleep. Suddenly they woke and realised Savarkar existed and now they will blindly dance to the tune of BJP and RSS in return for little Penny's thrown at them by politicians. Very pathetic demand when their own families are struggling to live with rising prises etc.
