Bengaluru, Aug 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken against corruption from the Red Fort while addressing the nation on Independence Day and the ruling BJP has no moral right to talk against corruption when Basavaraj Bommai government is reeking of corruption, JD(S) legislature Party leader H D Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday.
Addressing party workers at his office in Bengaluru, the former JD(S) Chief Minister wanted to know the kind of message the Prime Minister is going to give during his forthcoming visit to Mangaluru on September 2. ``Is Modi going to talk on the charge of 40% commission against Bommai regime,’’ he asked.
The BJP government in the State is steeped in corruption. High Court judges are talking about the corruption and even the State Contractors’ Association has directly written to Modi on the 40% commission collected by government departments. Corruption in PSI recruitments, appointment of assistant professors and several other cases are there. But the ruling BJP is investigating Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia over the alleged excise irregularities of one or two crore rupees but is silent when BJP government is the State is involved in corruption running to thousands of crores, he said.
Kumaraswamy said the coastal city of Mangaluru is known for its entrepreneurial spirit but under the BJP rule it has become a hotbed of communalism. When the State is divided over religious issues and the atmosphere is vitiated, how can entrepreneurs invest in the State? They need peace and harmony but BJP is dividing society, he said pointing out that Prime Minister’s visit to Managluru will not improve the situation.
State JD(S) Chief C M Ibrahim said Kodagu was known as Karnataka’s Kashmir due to its climate and culture. But BJP is converting Kodagu into another Jammu and Kashmir. Ibrahim attacked the BJP for spoiling the communal harmony, peace and brotherhood of Kodagu. He also lashed out at the Congress for continuously harping on the egg attack on Siddaramaiah instead of devoting the party’s attention to development and bread and butter issues.
