Bantwal, Aug 24: A tree fell across the road at Majjoni, Veerakamba gram panchayat limits as heavy rains lashed here since today morning disrupting vehicular traffic for some time.
The uprooted tree belonging to the forest department fell from the hill near Kelinga, Kalladka – Vitla road at about 4.30 pm. As it fell on the electric cables, two electric poles fell down causing loss worth lacs of rupees.
Kelinja resident Chandrashekar informed about the incident to the forest department. The forest department team visited the spot immediately and vacated the tree with the help of local people and made way for traffic.
Veerakambha gram panchayat president Dinesh Poojary and member Jayaprasad stood at the spot and helped in vacating the tree.
Rain damage at several places
Rain damage was reported at several places in Bantwal taluk. An uprooted tree fell at Ammunje grama also and light poles were broken.
A tree fell and mud caved in towards the house of Somappa Naika, near Basti, Baltila grama. The portion of the hill behind the house of Abdul Majid Bin Aboobacker, a resident of Bhagawantakodi, Mudkoor grama also collapsed.
The rear portion of the house of Manjunath, a resident of Kempugudde, Amtadi grama collapsed. The house of Poovappa Moolya, Vitla Kanya grama got damaged, stated a release from the taluk office.
