Udupi, Apr 16: “The people in a democratic country essentially had to fight for their rights and all issues cannot be resolved with mere struggles. A harmonious confrontation is required in the course of the
struggle in order to get justice,” said Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon.
Mendon was speaking at the inaugural of the public meeting held at Kaup, near here, on Thursday April 14 on the occasion of the 120th birthday celebration of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The celebration
was organized by the Karnataka Dalit Sangarsh Samiti (DSS) - Ambedkarism, taluk and Kaup units of DSS.
“It’s indeed a worthy attempt by the social welfare and voluntary organizations to educate society on the ideals of Dr Ambedkar,” said Mendon. “Meanwhile, if the social welfare and voluntary organizations
work with a selfless attitude it’s easier to achieve the set goals,” he added.
Tenkanidiyoor College lecturer Jayaprakash Shetty, in his keynote address, said that the ideology of Dr Ambedkar is relevant at all times.
DSS member Sundar Master, in his presidential address, explained the path trodden by their organization.

District deputy chief convenor Shyamaraj Birti welcomed the gathering. Taluk chief convenor T Manjunat Giliyar delivered the introductory address. Udupi Dalit student’s union convenor S S Prasad compered the programme. Kaup regional chief convenor Shivaram G proposed the vote of thanks.
