Bantwal: GP authority clears petty shop - Poor vendor suffers shock, hospitalised

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (MS)

Bantwal, Aug 27: Ramakrishna Kamath (50), poor petty shop vendor suddenly fell ill after the sudden petty shop clearance drive undertaken by Manchi gram panchayat (GP).

Kamath used to run a canteen in a push cart in Kukkaje market area. The gram panchayat without giving any notice took away the push cart. Kamath suffered high BP due to the shock of taking away his livelihood by the gram panchayat and is admitted to First Neuro hospital at Adyar.

Kamath was familiar with the public of Manchi and used to mind his own business. There are many other illegal activities going on under the limits of Manchi gram panchayat. However, the gram panchayat targeted a poor roadside vendor and took his push cart. Public is expressing rage on social media.

BJP supporters themselves are angry on the Manchi gram panchayat run by the party. On social media they wrote, “Development in Manchi, where BJP is in power is zero. The president of the gram panchayat has used the officials and has waged war against the poor vendor from his same community as well as supporter of BJP.”

“If the gram panchayat has the guts to follow law, it should take action against the illegal activities that are brought to its notice. What is the achievement by conducting atrocity on a poor vendor?” questioned the netizens.

Though poor vendor Ramakrishna Kamath is ready to pay fine and take his push cart back, the panchayat administration is harassing him without returning the push cart since two days. Due to the same reason, it is said, he took severely ill and is admitted in private hospital in Mangaluru.

Its simple. Most probably he forgot to give to Police their due´?First of all it is known these Pavement trailers dont pay any tax etc :to the govt´?Somehow he shouldnt feel now threatend, but take the asst from a lawyer to get back the cart.if he is on the right side.First Police have to warn him before they take off his cart .When nothing functions then ,cart can be taken off Police also shouldnt act as big .Law is not only for Police ,but other people too.

Actually pavements and public spaces should not be allowed to operate businesses because they obstruct free human and vehicular movement and they do not pay any taxes too! Authorities must come up with some plan to regulate them by providing specific places and issue licences for a nominal fee! BTW, these roadside illegal vendors eat into the business of regular eateries who pay hefty licence fees and also pay the health department plus pay commercial rates on gas, electricity, etc along with overheads!!

I fully agree with you. And most of these roadside vendors are not poor. Navi Mumbai has very broad pavements but most are occupied by petty shops selling food esp. vada-pav. They are a strain on the scarce resources and dirty the whole area. Then each becomes a den for illegal people. The loser is the nearby legal shop owner. If a seperate space is allotted (eg behind Pabbas in Mangalore) with some basic amenities, they refuse to move there.

Very true Monty, I know some sugarcane juice vendors who generate more than 50k per month and do not have to pay taxes or rentals; during off season, they switch over to fast food business!

Now they might sell "chai", instead of fast food, thinking they might be PM one day. Incidentally MPs , PM also need not pay income tax , street vendors have to atleast pay hafta...

All this after BJP came to power. Poor people are suffering. No one cares. People don't have conscious becoming inhuman. Creating religious divide is more important than showing mercy. People to blame for electing such horrible ruling candidates. Like many years back yeddy was not elected to power but later people forgot his misdeeds and voted him again. Politicians don't bother about poor people but only to fill their pockets along with 40 %. All people in the country must realize the need of the hour. Only then the problem will be solved

Livelihood is the only world of the poor... People in higher positions must be compassionate before anything... Even in the court of law judges are taking note of human cause... These GP officials are not fallen straight from heaven... They too have grown up in the same vicinity... What will one cart do to the area??? Mr. Kamat must be treated with respect and affection....
